Desktop efficiency meets disaster recovery
The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) is one of the largest agencies in the Mississippi State Government system with over 3,200 employees statewide. The agency provides services that reach an estimated one in five Mississippians. MDHS is in the business of caring for its citizens and helping move them from dependency on government assistance to a position of self-sufficiency. To achieve this objective, MDHS has undergone a series of IT initiatives designed to create more efficiency, particularly through the improvement of the state's electronic medical records capabilities, including remote but secure access to those records. A significant part of these initiatives involves the replacement of personal computers with Wyse thin clients.
"The scale at which we are trying to transform our IT systems is significant," according to Tim Ragland, CIO at MDHS. "It reminds me of a home remodel. It’s as if once we tear down the walls we find that we have termites. The one thing we can count on is that the Wyse devices will get the proper information in the hands of our people. They are the windows into our entire computing infrastructure. Regardless of what application is being loaded or what device is accessing data, our Wyse thin clients deliver functionality and reliability."
