Regional Transportation District Colorado
Simplifying the workload of PC technicians and providing a better end user experience
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is a public agency created in 1969 by the Colorado General Assembly. RTD operates as a public transportation system in a seven-county service area, which includes all of Boulder, Broomfield, Denver and Jefferson Counties, and parts of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties.
RTD has over 1,300 computers/laptops, 200 thin clients, 82 physical servers and over 200 virtual servers. RTD began using VMware ESX Enterprise in late 2005 and now has over 90% of its servers running on VMware ESX 3.5.
In late 2007 RTD was looking for a solution to simplify the workload of PC technicians, as well as to provide a better end user experience. RTD’s end users rely on applications such as Office, Oracle ERP system and all Adobe products (Photoshop, Premiere, Captivate). In addition, 20% of them had specific local peripheral needs. This included items such as scanners, local printers, thumb drives, and more.
